Thank you very much, I really appreciate the answer. It's not Dragon Ball Raging Blast 2 or Mortal Kombat Armageddon Levels of an unbalanced mess but it is noticeably less upbeat and interesting then the other games. I can safely say that the art style and mechanics are defiantly my least favorite in the face of Tekken 5 and even 6 but that it's far from a horrible fighting game. UPDATE: I've been playing a bit of Tekken 4. Then I rewatched the MK Armageddon video on Saturday Morning Scrublords and Mat claimed that "Tekken 4 dropped the ball" What does he mean by that? Was Tekken 4 really that bad? Or is it just fan exaggeration? If so, then what's so bad about it? I'm genuinely curious. Except for one, when I went to go and see if there were any available copies for Tekken 4, my friends all told me to avoid Tekken 4, saying that it was a waste of money. I've been collecting many of the Tekken games from 3 to 7, with Tekken Tag 2 and 5 being my favorite so far. It plays mostly great and I've been enjoying it for the most part.

It’s deep and mechanically intensive.Sorry for being such a normie but I'm new to the Tekken series and have been enjoying it, in spite of the fact that I still can just barely follow the story. So while I enjoyed 6 more, because I could actually play the game, I understand what it was that series fans loved about 5dr. People who joined after t6 will never know the pain of doing 40 damage off a launcher lol. No bounds and no screws meant that not only were combos extremely difficult, they were strict on timing and damage varied a lot from character to character and the player’s execution. Ofc, I was a newcomer to the series back then, and this all just put me off. Weird tech, like crouch cancel ewgf, were actively worked on because of the lack of tools and stuff like this made for very unqiue characters locked behind a steep execution wall. People playing t7 will tell you, bryan’s taunt is an optional technique you can work on incorporating in to your play, but in t5, it was pretty much the only move Bryan had that could track counter clockwise. Back then, move lists were not as fleshed out for each character, which means you had to use more of the entire toolset to get mileage. What 5dr really brought to the table, imo was color. along with hellsweeps and ewgf and Bryan’s taunt tracked both sides, which means busted unblockable/untechable setups at the wall lol. Off the top of my head, Heihachi had a i13 mid standing launcher. I was around 18 when T6 came out and it was the one that finally got me to start playing Tekken with a competitive mindset.Īlthough a lot of people say 5dr was the best, I’m not really convinced it was balanced. This game introduced really janky hitbox shenanigans where certain moves go through mids, but I ultimately prefer this game over TTT2 because TTT2 feels like it jumps the shark in the gameplay department.

There are characters who are really strong but it's not nearly as unbalanced as some may say it is (Bob is strong and easy, but he's definitely not the only character on top of the mountain).īound extends juggle combo length but they do the same amount of damage as T5DR combos do.

Like it's previous entry, it's update T6BR rectifies whatever imbalances the vanilla version had. TEKKEN 6 STILL HAS THE BEST CUSTOMIZATION IN ANY TEKKEN GAME TO DATE. Continues the trend of goodass music and increasingly creative stages. T6 revamped a bunch of old characters' movesets and animations which in turn made them feel fresh.

This game was the full fucking package and I loved this game as a kid even though I was still a casual back then. Just a solid game with a BIG emphasis on good movement and poking that makes those juggles and oki situations all the more satisfying when you got a launch. No obnoxious post 2000's looking anime characters. Now a lot of people will say T5DR is the magnum opus. T5.0 is mad unbalanced tho cus there's like 4-5 characters that absolutely shit on everyone else but T5DR basically rectifies that and makes everyone viable. THE SINGLE BEST INTRO IN A FIGHTING GAME EVER. Great music and impressive visuals for the time with more imaginative fantasy-esqe stages. T5.0 took what worked from T4 and discarded what didn't. This is the game that made me a fan when I was a kid because I thought the story and characters were so fucking cool. Loooots of buggy shit and the game was unbalanced with Jin flooding the tourney scene. Unfortunately, not all of the ideas introduced were executed well. Great music and realistic stage locations that were vast but still interesting. Every character felt like they mattered in the overall picture and it had a lot of great ideas. T4 had the best atmosphere, presentation, and story out of any Tekken game.
